You Just Can’t Really Lose Weight With Laxatives

When searching for the best way to lose weight, you will encounter hundreds of options. Some make sense, while others are entirely unrealistic. One of the most impractical ways to try to lose weight is to trying to lose weight with laxatives.

Laxatives increase the amount of water in the bowel and stimulate the colon to increase the frequency of peristaltic movements in the bowel wall. Neither one of these operations will help you lose weight.

Furthermore, laxatives fail to lessen the absorption of calories from food during the digestive process. Whatever has been eaten that is beneficial to the body at all makes its way into the body’s cells and the bloodstream. The remaining material is waste that your body cannot use. The average human bowel cannot hold more than five pounds of fecal matter at any one time.

Laxatives hasten the expulsion of the waste material and a moderate amount of water, which accounts for perhaps six or seven pounds of weight loss. Far worse for you than those few pounds you might take off your body weight are the abdominal cramps, dehydration and possible complications laxative abuse can cause.

People who use laxatives routinely as means to attempt to lose weight often find that their bowels will no longer work properly without them. This type of dependence on a drug is harmful to the body and the self esteem of the individual.

Not only is laxative abuse useless in the fight to drop pounds, it’s damaging to one’s health. It does not create any significant weight loss. Any weight you manage to lose will return as soon as you consume any food or beverages. Weight loss by laxatives is not possible, so you will be better served in finding an alternate weight loss method.
